Career in merchant navy or marine engineering is luring into
an exciting world of adventures on high seas and oceans. Away from home
storming through rough tides you will never run out of interesting tales
whenever you get the chance of returning. Though similar experience but
merchant navy is very much different from what we come to understand of the
Navy. It is more a commercial aspect based on trade and transport or other
commercial services.
As for Marine engineering, it comprises all the services and
activities performed upon ships and rigs. Overall the pay is much better as
compared to other shore jobs. In order to begin a career as a marine engineer
one must complete graduation with a degree in Bachelor of Technology from a
college approved by the Directorate General of Shipping of the Government of
India.
Marine
Engineering course is very similar to Mechanical engineering. One is taught several
skills and is provided with proper practical knowledge in the field of
Mechanical Engineering. This enables a candidate to operate giant marine
engines and auxiliary machines upon merchant vessels.
It is a very technical
job and requires engineers to ensure proper health and running of the ships and
vessels. As ship travel is very expensive and any sort of mistakes would cost
the ship owners in millions. Rest assured as engineers one will be heavily
compensated for such responsible roles.
